i've known about the series for awhile, but i've only just started reading it ! the characters really reasonates with me as i also struggle with mental health and have an interest in magical girls and kawaii fashion


wrist-cut transformation subculture ✡︎ menhera (mostly just called menhera-chan) is a manga series created by ezaki bisuko based of his vent art that became extremely popular on the internet. ezaki's university stress is what inspired him to create menhera-chan as a type of escapism.


the wrist-cut warriors are a group of magical girls that fight evil spirits that infect people to do their bidding. they are also each given a japanese fashion subculture, which their magical girl names are derived from. they all wear a choker with a kagome crest, not to be confused with the star of david.

momoka is the main protagonist ! she usually keeps to herself. she had a rough childhood, and is still trying to live through it. she is very lonely as her mother committed suicide, her father "always had to go on business trips" and she had no siblings. it was when momoka was being targeted by bullies that usatan intervened and made her a wrist-cut warrior. althought this turned out to be a dream, momoka's abilities were still persistant in real life.


sumire is the 2nd main character to appear in the manga. she is the most experienced wrist-cut warrior, and she often scolds momoka for being weak or inexperienced. she transferred to momoka's school because of a undercover evil spirit investigation. she bonds with momoka for also being lonely, as sumire's parents are divorced.


himeko is a wannabe wrist-cut warrior, and she occasionally fights with momoka and sumire. she has the personality of a fangirl and adores the wrist-cut warriors and wants to be exactly like them, but most she can do is punish human criminals. she has no real abilities, but usatan can give her "transformation pills" that can make her a real wrist-cut warrior for only a short amount of time.


usatan is a haunted bunny plushie that was made ages ago by an unknown wizard. he is momokas guardian. he likes alcohol, smoking and gambling. he hides transformation pills in his ears which can grant the user wrist-cut warrior powers for 20 minutes. usatan can also detach his ears, turning them into rockets.

nekotan is sumires guardian and can transform into a human, who takes the appearance of a boy with fair skin, messy shoulder-length dark blue hair, cat ears, tail and whiskers, wearing a black long-sleeved shirt and blue trousers.

ougi is momokas and sumires classmate. he has a crush on momoka and his feelings for momoka started when he found out that she was menhera-chan.

maria is momoka's mother and was a wrist-cut warrior before she was born. she is the ex-wife of the dark lord, aka momoka's father, and when she found out that he was the ruler of the yami world, she fell into a depression, and later committed suicide.


the yami world is an alternate world that the wrist cut warriors accessed from a portal.

the dark lord is a cold and heartless man. he can pass down his power onto his warriors, called yami energy.

angura is sumire's sister. she's rude towards the wrist-cut warriors at first since they're enemies, but asks for momoka's help when the wrist cut warriors are fighting the dark lord, because regardless of the outcome she knows her sisters will die. she started helping the dark lord because she just wanted to be with him, thus she tried to make his dream come true so that he would treat her like her own child.

yandere-chan's father is the dark lord, gothloli-chan is her sister and momoka and angura-chan are her half-sisters. she seeks validation from the dark lord and strives to be his favorite.
